Do OGG Files stress the battery more?
Hello Folks

First of all, i am from Germany, so excuse me, if there are a couple of mistakes in it.
I'm a very proud M6 SL owner for 2 weeks now, but the 4 GB disk space take the player too fast to the limit. I am looking forward to converting all mp3´s to ogg´s. now i wonder if that stresses the battery of the player more?!?!?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI don't think so, at least not very much.
However, I advise you to not transcode from .mp3 to .ogg. First listen to a few .oggs you get from .mp3s because they will probably sound worse. If you can't hear any diferrences then go for it. Just don't be dissapointed if .oggs sounds bad!
If you would want .oggs which sounds as good as .mp3s at a bit lower bitrates (for instance .ogg at 128kb/s and .mp3 at 160kb/s) you would have to convert both directly from a lossless source (like ripped .wavs from a CD).

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThis is what a LAME-Developer says:
Batter life in portable players using Ogg Vorbis - Hydrogenaudio ForumsWhen bitrate is increasing, the cpu power needed to decode the stream is higher, and so the player is using more battery. This is also valid for mp3.
The second point is that Vorbis needs more processing power to decode than mp3...
