Blew my PT850s

I was listening to some rap at pretty high volume, and at one moment the right earphone started distorting really bad on bass notes. I turned the volume down and tapped the speaker side with my finger, then i blew some air towards it (this usually works when earphones start crapping out). It still sounded bad so i tapped it a bit more, then it cut off totally.

Now the right earphone only works if i tap it with my finger, and only in a certain position. The left one is perfectly fine. Well, they sounded too good to last. But three days, c'mon.

Damn, now i'm stuck again with my old crappy Sony earbuds. Those things ring like crazy on any beat deeper than 80's pop, no matter what the volume is. Guess i'll have to invest in some Sennheisers...

if you want a cheaper alternative to the cx300 search for creative ep-630! i really recommend them, they sound just as good as the cx300 and they are cheaper too

Thanks for the tip, those Creatives look promising and the price is affordable. I'll go get a pair.

Btw, there's some weird thing here, as every time i had an earphone (mostly cheap ones) die on me, it was always the right one. And i also hear a tiny bit better with my left ear.

EDIT: Hey, my right earphone is back! It sounds like crap, but at least it works. :P Nah, was back for a minute or so then decided to cut off again. Well, i'll get those Creatives asap.

LATER EDIT: I have some Philips earbuds i bought for $10 about a month ago, they handle whatever i throw at them no problems. But they are a bit too heavy on the treble for my taste, probably for crappy players to seem louder, that's how many manufacturers do lately. Well, the M6 has a 10-band EQ, i'll put it to good use. Those Philips things will do for two weeks, as school's out (i'm in the 10th grade btw) and i'm going on holiday to my grandparents who live in a small town. I'm unlikely to find Creatives there so i'll hold on to my Philips till i get back.

The 10 band EQ, Bass, Treble adjstment, and Spatializer (SRS Wow in disguise) really come in handy don't they?

Yea, they do. But the crap Philips earbuds still sounded bad so i decided to use my Sonys. A little tapping on the driver units and they don't ring as bad as they did, and sometimes the bass slaps too hard for them to even think about ringing. :P The only times when they get nasty sounding is on really deep bass lines, like most stuff composed by Lil Jon or Iio's slower paced tracks. On everything else they sound great.

I'll be getting the Creatives when i get back from holiday anyway, it was about time for me to get proper earbuds.

Those Sonys of mine are too old for tricks like that, if i suck and blow on them they start to sound even worse. I used to do it all the time too but now it's useless. :P

Coz what happens when earphones are used a lot at high volume is that the voice coil heats up and over time the glue holding it to the mylar breaks in some areas, therefore in that area the voice coil will move separately from the mylar sheet, making that "ringing" sound.
