Editting Song Information ("tagging")

For those of you that do not already know, audio files such as MP3's come with "tag" information, including the title, author, track number, album, etc. There are a variety of programs available to edit this information. I personally use ID3-TagIT 3. It can be found here: http://www.id3-tagit.de/.

This program is free, stripped down, and very intuitive and efficient.

If you find that your long titles appear cut off on your Meizu and are not properly scrolling, then make sure that you have inputted Version 2.0 tag information as opposed to Version 1.0.

I just type it in using MediaMonkey, since that's my library anyway; seems to work fine for an average user, and I've never had a problem with incompatible tags. Still, looks like a nice program for those who want stand-alone tag editing.

i've personally encountered some problems with MediaMonkey since in the program, all the files appeared to have proper tags. but when i uploaded to my miniplayer, some files did not display any tags at all.

finally, i got myself the tagscanner and was able to fully edit all the tags. not sure though, why this kind of thing happened to me. *shrug*

That's about the only confusing thing about MediaMonkey. By default, when you update the meta-data in your library, it doesn't update the tags. I think they may have changed the default setting in the most recent version. You can force it to change the tags each time you update by changing a setting in the options.

I mainly use foobar2000 for tagging and file management now, but I still use Mediamonkey occasionally.

In no way tagging Id3v1 is the appropriate way to tag tunes for the miniPlayer because the tracks are scanned for genre/artist/album and it will take a lot more time to scan Id3v1 than Id3v2.

I tested ID3-TagIT and it's really handy to create tags for lots of files in a short time but it has one flaw: I have some Japanese music and prefer to have to tags in proper Japanese rather than latin alphabet. I can actually type in the Japanese characters (so the program seems to support unicode) but when I save the files, the Japanese turns to "??????". Any idea or do you know a program which supports unicode properly?

Edit: figured it out myself: if the tag didn't use unicode before, you have to delete it first before using unicode characters

how do you edit MULTIPLE tags at once in Winamp?
I think Itnutes is a bitch ... the only thing i use it for is tagging mp3s which is very easy in Itunes

i use mediamonkey and tagscanner. tagscanner is awesome for "batch" work, and mediamonkey is awesome for file management and individual files.

I have found mp3tag to be good for organizing tags. Its free and easy to use, can convert filenames to tags, tags to filenames, allows changing of tags for all selected songs as well as "keeping" tags as they are or to "blank" or a drop down list if the tag has multiple info to choose whats correct.
It is also has full unicode support including chinese japanese thai etc, works well with the latest winamp which also has full unicode support

I haven't done any tagging aside from inside Winamp, since most of what I get is either tagged already, or I use the filename for anyway, but I have been thinking about searching for one sometime soon.

If you want to find the best list of all available taggers (and most any other program, for that matter), free or otherwise, go to Downloads.com and search for Id3 taggers (or whatever else). Just make sure you check that it's freeware, not shareware, and read the reviews!

If I find a tagger I prefer, I'll post it here, too.

I'm using mediamonkey, too! Very clean interface and synchronizes with Meizu!

I have a 4gb sp miniplayer s 1.010 which sorts the tracks after artists and albums perfect. But it does not sort them after tracknr in the albums in the right order (In a couple of albums it does though). I used mediamonkey first and then tried MP3tag instead but it still does not work.
What to do?
