OGG or MP3 for M6
According to this huge comparison between ogg vs lame
you can use whatever you want (lame or ogg) in the area up 320kbit
http://www.digit-life.com/articles/oggvslame/
Now I did a test with the highest setting from oggenc -v 10. Replay is very good. No dysfunction at the end of songs like encoded with lame 3.97 and the sound?! Great! - yes of course. For me I change now to ogg because its open source and lame violates patents if its distributed as binaries ... maybe.
What codec are you using? If you own a Meizu you can use a wide range ...

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI use mp3 lame 3.98 with -v 1 (~220Kbps) and Flac -5.
The reason to use mp3 ant not ogg is simple. I have other music devices that only know mp3.
I am planning to buy a Rapsody N35 device this month, and I believe that all my music can be flac or ogg encoded then.

I use a combination of q10 vbr oggs and FLAC nowadays. For the capacity that q10 ogg takes, you may as well use flac.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsFor a normal set of earphones, MP3 with around 224kb/s is not any different to FLAC music files, other then the large filesize of FLAC. Therefore, MP3 is better.

hmm
FLAC of course will give the best audio quality as its lossless.
However, FLAC takes too much space at 40MB per song
OGG is a good second and sounds better than MP3. Unfortunately, i went back from OGG to Mp3 as Mp3s can be played everywhere and OGG gives compatibility problems with other players, stereo sets etc
so... in the end ill go for a 192 VBR Mp3
Sounds fine and can be used everywhere
EDIT: as for the difference between FLAC and a good MP3 or OGG: the difference with a good set of earphones is noticeable but only slightly when you're paying full attention to the music. In my opinion definitely not worth the extra 30MB of size per fileLast edited by Job; 06-10-2007 at 05:16 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsFor my needs 128 kbit LAME MP3 is just fine for my mobile music needs. At home I use LAME -V2 but filesize is too big for my 2GB Meizu M6 and I cannot hear the difference anyways.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI will agree that it isn't really worth while right now for FLAC except for archival purposes since the format is lossless you can keep it at a digital format and not worry about losing any music data. For day to day listening though a VBR encoded MP3 (low 32Kbit and high 320Kbit) will do just fine. I have several FLAC files I will be converting over to MP3 once my Meizu unit comes. I've got it importing from China to the US.

My entire music library (about 400 gb) in encoded in lame-preset-extreme or close to that, nothing lower than 160, I'm not about to re-encode all of it to antyhing else so I'm happy with mp3......

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsFor those songs that I want to have with me in super high quality I use FLAC. Everything else is Ogg Vorbis, or the occasional MP3 'home copy' that I downloaded.
