I don't understand all of the jargon, but would you all help me out,
by stating the type or types of music that these settings are set for?
Thanks
WT not up on all of the latest tech terms and specs.

ehh...sorry, you are not listening to music the way it was recorded. try 5 different earphones/headphones with your settings. they will all sound different. each earphone/headphone has it's own frequency response and none of them is flat -> flat response needed to hear the sounds how they meant to be. Ohh...that's not right..you would need to be in the studio where the exact music was recorded. Nothing has flat frequency response, including the studio equipment so flat would still sound different...

you are ofcourse right... you will never get a sound exactlly as it was recorded... i know thar different headphones sounds different but first of all you try to find headphones that sounds "natural" and then if you think it is needed you may change som eq... for example my porta pro gives a lot of bass so you'll have to lower it a bit to get a "natural" sound...

Please note that no portable audio player with any lossy(or even lossless) codec will give you "natural sound"...as far as that term can be defined...
While I do agree with the fact that the higher your source is the better it will sound its also true that your sound depends much on your earphones, settings and personal preferences
I myself use a Shure set with my Miniplayer and the quality of music is fine.
Way better than the Ipod Video I had and better than the Archos I had.
However, it doesn’t sound nearly as clear and full as my 8 year old Yamaha stereo with good speakers
why? because I use mp3, on a small player, with earphones that simply dont have the room to resonate like normal speakers, usually in a less than silent environment(isn’t that what we all use Mp3 players for?)
Sound quality is largely a matter of personal preferences.
Therefore, debating about the "best" EQ setting is useless..
I use the classical EQ with slightly increased bass.
With bass boost and treble boost on 0 Spatializer on “on” normal, Virtual 3D off ,PCE on 3, VIBE on 0, Speaker type earphone
Is that the best? It is for me... probably not for the next guy with different music choices, codec preferences, ears and earphones…
Just my 2 cents…

e4c's
depends on the genre/artist/song and listening environment.
generally ~+5 or more in the 5 khz range because it is quite low in that region and half in the 2.5 khz range. also +some to taste in the 16 khz and sometimes 10 khz range to taste.

With my Shure E500's, my EQ is like this.
0 . 0 . -1 . -2 . -1 . 0 . 1 . 2 . 1 . 0
Sometimes, I feel like I need to up the treble a bit more, but when I do, something doesn't sound right, more so than it is now. I'm pretty sure I'm going to give another headphone a try, but for now this is what it's going to be.

for portable speaker, no lack at high volumes (recommended for no-bass-supporting portable speakers):
bass bost: 0
trebb bost: 2
spatializer: v. 3d
v. 3d: 4
phse c. e. : 2
vibe: 0
speaker type: headphones
eq: -7,-6,-4,-2,0,+1,+3,+4,+5,+7
for senmai s100 ( http://www.senmai.com.cn/En_Product.asp?EnBigClassName=In-ear%20Earphone), not very conmmon in here, but they have really good bass, blurry high tones.
bass: 7
trebb: 2
spatializer on v.3d
v3d: 1
PCE: 1
Vibe: 2
eq: 4,3,1,0,-1,1,2,3,5,7
just to add...a chinese brand called OVC have made v-moda-look-like earphones, called OVC T25. for more information

My EQ settings for the bundled PT800:
-1 -5 -5 -5 -8 -6 -6 0 1 0
I tried to mimic the sound signature of my HD555 and this is what I came up with. The earphones respond well to eq and it sounds pretty good using the above settings.

You really should try to normalize your EQ. Instead of increasing 20khz to 7, make it 0 and reduce everything else by 6 or 7 so that the highest any range goes is either 0 or 1.
** I'm currently back to a flat 0 EQ across the boards with my E500's since I jsut received my new Shure black foams. They improve the sound 10 fold. =]

Westone UM1
bass: 3
treble: 0
spatializer: on >> normal
PCE: 2
Vibe: 1
speaker type: earphones
eq: -1,-1,0,-6,-6,-4,-4,-2,-2,-1
cause of this setting you "can sometimes" (I usually don't, but it's possible depending on how loud the song is) increase the volume to max.
Everything sounds smooth up to 38, but then the step to 39,40 doesn't sound right anymore: Bass suddenly gets too strong and it's not hearable
latest fw 2002.3
Anybody experienced the same or can try this out

well, I usually listen around 20, but the music must have been pretty quiet itself, so that I could go up that high.
and not like the most here, I equalize down not up

Same here, I EQ'd down for some time, but I realized I missed some of the details in the music due to dropping the upper bass and lower mids. But since I got the Shure black foams, I've been trying to listen with a flat EQ, though I think I'll still drop some frequencies 1 or 2, instead of the 4 or 5 I had before.

the last step to get to the eqs(when you see Rock,Pop,...) there you have to press the forward button.
If you just tap in the middle for some reason you get back one step.
