My Senn MX550 sounded much better than the Meizu PT800. And MX500 and 550 are pretty much the same, and so are PT800 ant PT850.
That said, it may be a question of taste before all.

the MX550 has more of a treble end and cleaner bass compared to the MX500, however MX500 has tighter bass with stronger low end attack.

Could be that...because the PT850 sound really nice for being stock earbuds

It could be fake, or it is real sennheiser, but they are deffective.

I have a par of a Sennheiser MX300 and that with the distortion have I too. It's normal
My tip is to not use the Bass boost and the PCE. This should minimize the problem.
Anyway, I find my MX300 not so god on sound compare to my PT850. but build quality is better on MX300.

You should also a try with my sound setting here:

    Bass Boost: 0
    Treble Boost: 1
    Spatializer: OFF
    EQ: +6, +2, 0, -2, -2, -2, 0, -3, +5, +6
    Restrict Volume: No Limit (40)

I can go up 40 with this setting without any distortion iif the song I listen to don't contains any heavily bass drums
If it does (example Heavy Metal) I can go up 36 without big distortions.
Hope this will help you just a little.
