the compression of FLAC depends on the level youy choose it to convert to
The higher the level, the longer it takes
    its still lossless though

however, as far as my experiences go small than 30MB is hard to get

    Thx.

Heheheh, M6 M3 allows for FLAC support, but when you look at it, the 8GB is really small.

Yeah it's about 500Mb per album with this format, but Why do you use the FLAC format? Can you really hear a difference between a Mp3 file and a FLAC one?

I can only listen to FLAC on M6, can't stand the "was that an artifact?, did that sound right?" phenomenon of listening to lossy files. Scalability of volume is clean on lossless but can exhibit bad glare on even the highest bitrate mp3s.

The 4GB miniplayer I have isn't quite large enough for me to carry all that I want, but has to be enough for now. 8GB will be better, and sweet spot for me is probably 12-15 GB.

FLAC and WAV both have the same quality of Lossless formatting. Just that FLAC supposedly works better with compression or something.

FLAC actually compresses while WAV doesn't.

Yes WAV isnt compressed WAV is the original file
Personally I am not a big fan of FLAC(yet), despite the great quality, and that's because the compression rate just isn't high enough... at 500 MB an album my player will be full in no time

Heh, and people ask Jobs (Steve Jobs) why the fuck do you need a 80GB DAP.
Well now you know. Oh wait, iPods don't support FLAC! Suck it Apple!

I usually store my music in FLAC (or APE) and convert them to mp3 to listen in my player.
FLAC is good and the compression is pretty good too.
In a M6 4gb you have room for aproximately 10 or 11 full CD's. May be more.
The good thing with FLAC is that you have one FLAC file with the CD image and a CUE file with the tracks.
I guess that M6 cannot handle this, and you have to cut the FLAC in individual tracks. Foobar2000 makes the job

My Player needs to be about 20GB to fit all the music I want on it....

Not if you hear Subliminals recordings.
If you encode them in MP3, will lose the "details".

BTW, what is the difference between Flac and Apple "lossless"?

Can Apple "lossless" be played on the M6?

I cannot hear any differance between 320kbps MP3 and FLAC lossless. Some do tho, but it is a veeery small differance ^^

Apple is terrible whenit comes to that

You can convert them to ALAC(Apple lossless) via Foobar and I have 70 GB ALAC music in my ipod.

I second that. But only if I have the direct comparison and if it is music I know really well. If I had to make the pepsi test I would probably fail ..
Current listening tip : Porcupine Tree - Voyage 34
Don't cripple that fine music with mp3 .. please
