"headband" headphone reccomendation
hi i am looking for some real quality sound sounding headphones, id like any reccomendations and experiences if youve got them
the bass cant be crackly or shaky and id prefer the highs to be excenuated and crisp, but mostly the bass cant crackle out
im looking for like portable headphones but i dont want earbuds or those behind the ear headphones, im looking for somewhat compact, portable, headband style of headphones
id really like to pay about $40 for them but i could be able to pay around $60 tops or so, but please post any more expensive reccos too i guess

Nothing in the above linked thread really answers your question fully, so I'll give you a few suggestions.
For portable cans, there isn't really much of a choice, but there are a few that stand out (I dont know the pricing in USD, but they should be within your price range..hopefully =P )
Since you are after treble and detail, i'll recommend these in order of highest treble quality to lowest. (That doesnt mean the treble is poor for no.6, but it isn't as good as my first recommendation =P )
1. Audio Technica ATH-ES7
2. Audio Technica ATH-OR7
3. Audio Technica ATH-FC7
4. Sony MDR-7502
4b. Sony Eggos
5. Sennheiser HD-212pro
6. Sennheiser PX100
Generally it boils down to how much you value your audio quality and how much you are willing to pay for that quality.
Cheers.Current Rigs:

listen thank you for your over reasonable and very helpful reply, blackstar
ill check out every single all of those tomorrow, its a bit late right now but i wanted to reply, i hear you about the quality to price ratio and im generally the type to swallow and pay the extra 20+ for the quality, i cant understand not paying for it
and yo for the record i have the mos def and talib debut group album and i love it, especially 'hater players'
any and all other reccos and replys would still be overtly appreciated though, id be a sucker to buy off of one reply/reccomendat..

i found some others that fit my requirements quite well, theyre by AKG
the two i looked at were the 'AKG K 26 P' and the 'AKG K 27 i', does anyone know anything about both of these? more importantly which one is the better set, better sound quality?? and are either of these better or worse than the 'Sony MDR-7502's?
also, blackstar, i was wondering if you could direct me to where i can buy those audio-technica phones? theyre not on amazon and all the pages i get for them are in japaneseLast edited by supernote; 03-14-2007 at 06:49 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI read alot more about the AKG K26P than i do abotu the 27i. Check out Head-Fi if you want to read more about headphones.
Ebay has a good amount, but don't fall for the $0.99 buyout ones, lol. Check Audio-cubes and Price-Japan for extensive Audio Technica products.

I've tried the K26P.. didnt like them.. they're like vicegrips on your head. Very uncomfortable.
Audio technica headphones --> www.audiocubes.com
I would so recommend grado headphones to you, too bad i don't consider them to be "portable" =PCurrent Rigs:

im currently leaning really towards the audio-technica FC7, they seem just what im looking for and really worth it, however ive read one real harsh review that kept me from picking them up right away
have you used the ATH-SJ5 ? theyre a hair cheaper but thier reviews seem a bit more positive than the FC7 and also the SJ5s didnt make your list blackstar, maybe people expected less out of these than the FC7
please respond, im close here and its between the FC7 and SJ5 pretty much and im leaning FC7
(also, has anyone heard or have experience buying through www.bluetin.com ??)Last edited by supernote; 03-17-2007 at 05:40 AM.

I personally have not heard of before, nor tried the ATH-SJ5, so I can't comment on those unfortunately. You can try searching on the Head-Fi forums though, theres lots of audiophiles there (www.head-fi.org).
I've bought a few times from bluetin and recommend them. They have an awkward system for shopping, but it works. Minhwa is a reputable person and is quick to respond to any questions/queries. However, shipping is nowhere near as fast as audiocubes unless you go express which costs quite a bit.Current Rigs:

quite hard to tell from specs.. you see theres a lot more to it then frequency response, sensitivity and driver size. But based on the specs you have given me, the SJ5 does seem to have a leading edge over the FC7.
1. SJ5 has a larger driver (this will mean that the SJ5 is larger than the FC7 in physical size, but may mean the SJ5 sounds better than the FC7 basswise)
2. Sensitivity of the SJ5 is higher than that of the FC7. This allows you to hear more details in your music... unfortunately high sensitivity and the Meizu's high noisefloor does not match.
3. mmm.. elastomer cord...
4. The SJ5 can blow up faster than the FC7. (Really not an issue unless you like plugging in an amp into your audio device and cranking up the amp -> headphones at maximum volume exceeding 800mW, which would probably make you deaf in 1.2 seconds :D )
Just a few things you do need to consider though, the comfort of these headphones can greatly alter whether you will enjoy your music or not, so be careful.Current Rigs:
