Samsung i900 Vs HTC Diamond

My friends getting a phone so I'm helping him decide between these 2 phones. Just read this interesting comparison over at gsmarena.com

HTC Touch Diamond vs. Samsung i900 Omnia: Head-to-Head - GSMArena.com

I have to say that while these devices look nice, Winmo 6.1 looks appaling. I mean both companies have customised the UI to make it more finger touch friendly but if these are the best touch devices the other companies can deliver, steve jobs must be laughing his head off. The iphone is simply in a different league.

I did notice however that both these hand sets can properly support xvid up to 640x480 using the CORE player application, something I'm not sure meizu will be able to pull off considering their 'issues' with b-frames in mpeg4 codecs. I'm also now thinking that the battery drain on the M8 might be really fast due to it's 720x480 display. The Samsung Omnia I900 boasts a 1440 mAh battery, and only a QVGA display but has decent battery life. So an M8 running a display with a much much higher pixel density/resolution and only using only 1500mah battery.....sounds like the M8 may have poor battery performance. Also the Opera 9.5 web browser seems like it may not be as good as Apples safari browser.

I have to admit though that Meizu going for Win CE over WinMo now seems like a very good move. WinMo is simply not made to be finger touch friendly, once you get deep into the menus a stylus in a necessity. This article also talks of the poor sound reproduction associated with WinMo handets.

It makes you think though, if this is all these comapnies can manage, you start to see kind of why there is so much hype around the iphone. Apple simply obliterates all the biggest phone manufacturers in the world in terms of hardware design and software implementation.

I'm sure extended batteries will be available, like any other product that has a battery. If Meizu won't have an extended battery, a third-party manufacturer will. Can't wait until tomorrow. I have 2 things to look forward to: the All Star Game and the M8 test.

I read a user review on the Touch Diamond. Apparently the prism shaped back is annoying as you can't lay it flat on the table. Also, he reported that the back of the phone got quite hot after a short time.

The specs for the Diamond are better than the Omnia, I think. I was considering buying one of these two phones but now I'm going to continue to wait to buy the MiniOne M8 instead.
