the onda VX777 is ok, the interface is a bit ugly though and the firmware not great IMO. If it was me and I was going to buy a chinese player for video I would get the SmartQ T5 II. It does not have a widescreen but IMO it is one of the only Chinese players with a good interface and strong firmware. It is easily comparable to large western brands. No other Chinese player I have come across (and I have used a few players from different brands like Meizu/Hacha/Ramos/Onda etc) comes close (apart form Meizu). It also has good battery life and runs on sd/sdhc cards and supports upto 16gb. Certain other Chinese players look ok like the Onda VX767 and the Ramos V8 an T8. however their interfaces aren't as good as the SmartQ.

If you wanted a player for video from a more expensive western/korean/japenese brand I would look at:

Cowon D2
Samsung YP-P2
Iriver spinn (not release yet though)

OR If you want a pmp

Cowon A3
Archos 605

Hope this helps

the teclast t50 is good too. 30 fps, rockchip audio. Also, it's a touchscreen player with 2.8" widescreen. Actually, I just ordered this one, I haven't actually played around with it yet but the specs looked too good to pass up. I like the m6, but the video at 20 fps is.. lacking...

Also, I hear the onda 777 doesn't use the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, so you might want to consider that.

Actually I would get the vx777 or vx767 because a Rockbox port is underway for those devices. The earphone jack is a standard 3.5 mm jack.

for video the T50 is a no go, really not a good screen for video, blacks are awful and the whole thing seems washed out on color and sync problems also

T50 is a music player more than video, i know its rockchip but the power needed by the capacitive touch screen must be having some effect because the same movies on my rm970 are way way better

One you get it id be more then happy to read a little review.
I have been searching the web for descent non-store revies of the T50.
it looks good but all other Teclast products i have tried before looked good on paper and in design but turned out to be crappy players in practice

What?!?! really... that's disappointing. I wish someone would post a side by side video comparison of these players... Now I'm confused. I expect to get my new player in a couple of days, I'll decide then whether it's a good enough player and if to get another one. I thought I had finally found a decent player that in terms of looks, audio and video playback and battery life, and functions - so I'll have to see. sigh*. Anyways, I hope the originally post finds a decent player.

actually, I just wish the m8 would come out sooner, that would pretty much solve all my problems. all of them.

ike the meizu the teclast t50 is more of a music player and this it does well, it is also very new and so a few more updates will fix small bugs, and with the enhanced touch screen navigation is excellent and is ease of use, also with the wolfson the sound is excellent. Not sure whay the video is so washed out though, it like there is not enough power left to run it or something

When I get it in, I'll definately write a little review. If I happen by any other player I'll try to post a side-by-side video review for the screens. It's so frustrating sometimes to try and get the right player with another one popping up every other day.

I bought the t50 because everyone said that it sounded as good as the meizu, and the video specs were better. I'll let you guys know.

I didnt mean to make you regret your purchase
I tried the Teclast T29, c280, T39 and one other of which I don't remember the name. All of them looked pretty in design and specs but the sound was sub-par even though they use all the right chipsets...

Besides that Teclast has some hauntingly ugly menu's in some of its players. I hope they fixed that with the T50.

The T29 was a disaster with controls and menus and had tinny sound, the C280 had unresponsive controles and ok sound, the T39 was a piece of crap on all levels. After that I have grown weary of Teclast

I hope they got it right with the T50 as id like to get a second player a fluent touch screen controls and some kick ass sound keep us posted!
