3G iPhone will be able to be bought outright and unlocked...well in Australia anyway

Optus, a mobile phone company in Australia has announced it's prices 'nd stuff on the iPhone 3G.

They say they will give customers the choice to buy the iPhone outright 8gb for $729 AUD, which I think would be something like $695 US or something (but if or when an american company offer an outright price it will be cheaper cause stuff is cheaper there than it is here).

They also offer to unlock it for $80 (something like $70 US) when it is less than 6 months old after that it is unlocked. Or if you buy $80 worth of pre-paid credit, after that it is unlocked.

Optus also released pre-paid iPhone pricing and plans. An 8GB iPhone 3G will be $729 and a 16GB model will set you back $849. The prepaid iPhone is locked to the Optus network however unlocking is free after 6 months, or $80 before.

Anyway this is a bit of a blow to the M8 cause it's just lost a couple of advantages which it had over the iPhone

Actually in the US here is the breakdown.

$199 8gb Iphone
$90 Service + Taxes 1st month service
$175 ETF FEE after 30 days the phone is yours to keep.

Total to get Iphone and put it on any GSM provider:
$464 for the 8gb phone
$564 for the 16gb phone

In Belgium it is illegal to sell simlocked phones. It is also illegal to make it a obligation to sign a contract when somebody buys a phone.

So in Belgium the contractfree and simlockfree iPhone 3G is 525 Euro for the 8GB and 615 Euro for the 16GB version.

A lot of money to be in fashion.

In Holland you can get imported ones for only 450 euro.... (3G UK Version). Ok without simlock, but the programs are coming soon to unlock it yourself.
