This is a discussion on Meizu Mini One M8 Specifications within the miniOne M8 forums, part of the Meizu Product Discussions category; Because i dont need one. Have Sony ericson Mobile Phones and never use this camera because the quality is crap.
...
It's running a custom WinCe, any compatibility will therefore depend on how custom Meizu has made it.
@below:
How many other devices with Meizu's supposed hardware that is also running WinCE do you know? Also things like multi-touch have to be coded from within the kernel, not just the cosmetic changes.
I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that if it is running WinCE, then any WinCE program that is compatible with the hardware (Processor, screen size, available memory) will work. I believe it is just a custom UI that is different, not the underlying OS.
Actually, it matters highly on software designers. People might have just mussed this or that proggy up when they wrote it, or just didn't test it on a big enough display for example. In that case, that wouldn't work. But hey, let's wait and see!
Did Meizu set a date for release? When, meizu, when will you finally release the m8... I'm dying here... I've been looking around at all the "hip-phones" and all the unnecessary drama.. Btw, did anyone here get a boxu, or daxian, or cect phone? How's that working out for you? I'm finding it hard to wait around any longer for the m8...
I bought the CECT P168, and I have to say it wasn't that bad. It was a good emergency replacement phone, but for every day use It's not that user friendly. Would I buy it again? No. I would save up my money and by something better (ex. HTC Diamond) or just wait for the M8. But I would consider the I32 Hiphone.
My dad has bought a CECT S688. Phone is quite nice, but the interface (layout) of the menus is a bit ugly. Also it works a bit weird. We can't load any MP3 or other music extension (which is supported). If we do that, the computer sees them at the phone card (micro-sd). The phone itself doesnt recognize them. Also if you're typing something and you want to go back you first have to clear (right button at the soil). Then the 'back' button appears... I kinda don't like this, or I'm just used to my Sony Ericsson (which is almost death )
Postive:
-Touchscreen
-Not the worst quality but also not the best
-Price (106 euro, 164 dollar)
-Big screen
-Only 1 port, USB, to charge your battery, transferring data etc.
Negative:
-The interface with the buttons
-Layout (my opinion)
-Warranty (not really a - point but if you've to send it back from Europe it'll take some time before you get it back)
-Touchscreen works sometimes not really, you've to press a bit, don't know if that's normal.... Our GPS device dont need that violation :P Edit:
-No UMTS
I hope you've something about this information.
EDIT II:
Some screenshots about the layout (which I don't like)
Search google for 'CECT S688' -> images -> go to page 2 -> right soil
To me, putting a 667Mhz processor into a phone seems like overkill. It's not like your going to do too processor demanding tasks... It's more powerful than my old computer (lol, it's circa 1998, still decent for some light web surfing and as a music player, but not much else). Wait, I just contradicted myself. Ignore what I just said. I have to say good job on managing to implement the iPhone's multi-touch screen, the accelerometer, and the light sensor though. Keep up the good work!
The release seems to be forever away, however. My only complaint about Meizu.
...than just looking at this forum. People buy new phones every day.
Now the new iPhone is out.
I bought my first Laptop in 1996, then I waited nearly 10 years!!! to buy another one, but waiting for the best means you never getting another laptop, or phone... so I'll buy my first MBP next month, and will recycle the thing in 3 years.
I can't wait forever to see MEIZU collecting information, but never actually produce anything except bubbles.
...if the largest mobile network service provider in the world (CMCC, China Mobile) cannot get a 3G license, what good does a 3G phone do us?
...if MEIZU does not find a software solution comparable to the iPhone's it will be no choice for the gadget fans, and those you want too, MEIZU!
...if (Big IF) all the forum talk about the M8's specs becomes reality, it will be a success.
Now here is what MEIZU needs to do!
Realize the "wonder phone" soon.
WiFi is an absolute MUST.
GPS, G3, etc.
The phone must be open to buyers provider choice = unlocked!
Prepared for 2 (TWO) Sim cards.
Have at least 8GB memory, upgradeable
sufficient "phone" memory.
A touchscreen which converts light into electricity (a feature many cheap phones have already in China)
proper antennas!
no less than 3MP cam.
Handwriting- and voice recognition.
a English-Chinese both ways, Pinyin+Chinese character dictionary!!! No phone has that yet.
Optional first class Bluetooth (stereo) earphones.
Good accessories, like a well designed carrying case...
...a second battery and intelligent charger, good for Bluetooth device and phone with standard connectors (best USB type, as they are the most sturdy)
a software to connect the phone to your laptop via Bluetooth, equal to Nokia's suite, which communicates with my LOTUS organizer and exchanges information BOTH ways - phone>organizer and organizer<phone.
Have I forgotten anything? Oh, yes getting back to the G3 fans. Most countries in the world do NOT HAVE G3, but have WiFi. Therefore the phone should have WiFi and G3 capabilities.
Guys, The M8 is truly a great idea, so far... but will only be a competition to any of those big makers out there if it has what it takes. With capabilities as I described and those which have already been posted I'd buy one in a minute, and millions will do to.
The software of the iPhone is cool, the iPhone badly designed (build in battery, no Sim card slot) and bad quality (screen scratches easily).
Are you guys at MEIZU listening? If not, I predict only marginal success. If you listen, it will be (with 1st class marketing) a ww success.
Best
IKE:D
Spot on!
If the M8 has the "everything/more" in its specs then paying a higher retail price to cover the costs is not an issue with me. I'd pre-order TODAY.
Come on, Meizu, I want to give my money to you and own the M8!
I wish that we could have everything... but you can't. It won't be cheap anymore. If you put GPS and 3G in there it would KILL the battery like the iPhone 3G. Two SIM cards aren't necessary. A must need feature though is Bluetooth.

... hi Steve
of course Bluetooth is a must... don't just use the iPhone as an example. There are others. WiFi is a must for WW use. G3 is so far, not even in the developed world, fully accessible, but good to have. You don't have to use all features to save battery life--- just like with your laptop.
1.
Some Chinese brand mobile phones have 2 Sim cards... actually a good idea!
2.
The phones recharge through the screen (convert heat/light to electricity-an old idea-, but seems to work and sells).
ALL of what I described is available as third party components (no phone makers manufacture components), but if you cannot place big orders, or don't have a name like APPLE the prices for all those little components are going to be high. That's the dilemma MeiZu faces.
I think this "R&DFORUM" is here to stay and babble about the great M8 that never comes......
Together with good specs, I hope there's an amazing selection of accessories for the M8. I want to be able to personalise it too. It will be my most beloved lil' gadget.
