This is a discussion on The M8 final specifications still pending within the miniOne M8 forums, part of the Meizu Product Discussions category; 以下是引用 J.Wong 在 2008-6-15 23:40:00 的发言:
内存是肯定要加的,测试版和上市后的都将是256MB内存.
m8的瓶颈不在cup,800MHz 和667MHz差别不大。
6万5千色还是1600万色还不能肯定,取决于2D加速最后修正的效果。
如果做不好1600万色,就不涨价,加内存的成本由魅族自己消化

The RAM ...
The RAM is certainly to be expanded, both beta version and retail version will be 256MB RAM.
The cup(he mean CPU frequency, not bra size,I guess) is not bottleneck, performance of 800Mhz and 667Mhz is amost the same(M8 will at 667Mhz,get the meaning from the context).
Color depth is still not certain to be 16bit or 32bit,it's depond on the final adjustment of 2D accelerate.
If we can't accomplished the 32bit color depth, the price of M8 would not be increased,Meizu would assumed the cost of expanding RAM itself.
IF with a 32bit color depth screen ,the system could run smoothly, then the price of M8 retail version would be increased to CNY2580,or The M8 retail version would had to using a 16bit color depth screen, the price would still be CNY2380,but with 256MB RAM(128MB before).
well, I don't think 16 bit colour depth would be a disaster by any means. Most Win Mobile devices have 16 bit colour depth and still look nice. Apple apparently does not reveal colour depth information. Speculation has suggested thhat the iphone screen is 24 bit, but no one can be sure. I think it does make a difference though as other phones have higher resolutions and pixel density than the iphone yet many believe the iphones screen to still be one of the best (sharpest/crispest etc) available on any mobile phone. I have to agree too, the iphones screen is very nice.

Could be because iPhone colordepth is really 24 bit (or 32 bit, which is 24bit (8bit/primary color)+8bit alpha). You can compensate for lower resolution by implementing antialiasing, which basically use alpha blending to simulate "partially filled" pixels. And higher colordepth may gives iPhone better antialiasing compared to WinME smartphones, hence the sharper screen impression.
BTW, 32 bit HVGA represent exactly the same amount of memory than 16 bit VGA.
If Meizu go for it, and iPhone indeed is 32bit/pixel, they will have to move around the same amount of memory / screen....coincidence? ;-)
To know the iphone colordepth, visualizing a black and white picture of a smooth gradient (from black to white) should give the answer. Just count the number of bands, even with dithering they should be visible.
Anybody want to generate such an image and show it on his iPhone? ;-)
I would say that 32 bit depth with an HVGA screen is a better decision that 16 bit depth on a VGA one: I think that having alpha allows for composition effects more easily/efficiently than if you do not have, that may be one of the trick behind iPhone UI smoothness :-)
wait ... still no final specifications after 2 years? What the heck are they doing? Adding a "return" to the menues in the M6 firmware? Did they use all their manpower to accomplish that task?

rofl....i love the humor of you guys out there!
maybe they developed a new "forward" to the menues in the M6 firmware?
Does anyone even care about the m8 anymore ...? I mean seriously this is getting ridiculous and I also noticed that these boards have gotten very quiet these days....I'm guessing most people gave up on it just as I have...
sad really....it had so much potential...

May be the innovative folks at Meizu decided to scrap the M8 and take a quantum leap to the M25
yeah this is my first post on the forum for ages. I have to say that my interest has slightly diminished. All this alpha/beta crap plus the fact that the m8 will now not support mpeg4 with b-frames, and most of my xvid/divx files have b-frames so re-encoding will be necessary. If I had wanted to re-encode video I could have just got an iphone.
Plus the fact it will now not have 16 million colours. Even at 480x320 the iphones screen is unbelievably crisp, I think meizu have made a big mistake with the oversight of mpeg4 b-frames and not having 16 million colours, especially with that much processing power.
And with still no sign of a release date, a lot of other devices are starting to interest me much more.
Is the total number of colors being held back by the actual LCD or the software? Anyone remember when Jack Wong said that he bought $1 million worth of LCD's?

Software, as they were testing 16M colors and found it to be too slow for some codecs, hence the move to 65.5k colors.
I believe more and more than Meizu is not up to the task of OS/software development. Pity, as M6 was well regarded hardware-wise, and given what we know about the M8 specs and internal components, it looks like it really has great hardware, especially given the price. I think it would be better if Meizu concentrated on providing high-end hardware at middle-low price, and let other develop the OS, either by choosing WinMO7, android, or other linux distro. It is a little bit early for that (those new generation OS not being ready), and Custom WinCE Meizu OS is (I hope) too advanced to be scratched, but I hope in the future versions M'x' (if there is a future, better get the M8 out fast to have one :-/) they follow this route. In fact I already hope they open the m8 to allow installation of alternative OS (not WinMO7, I do not think it is possible to install it like windows, only Meizu could offer upgrades, but to Android or other open source alternatives. M8 could be an alternative to OpenMoko with far better hardware (although no included GPS) and sexier/smaller shell, at a roughly equivalent price).
