No updates > 550 tracks

Just wanted you to know that I have almost 600 music tracks on my Meizu (8GB) and I only get an update when it has been connected to the USB.

Is it possible that somehow invisible or system files are copied to your drive? Do you have some software installed on your PC that tags each external drive with some hidden file(s)?

Also did you re-update your firmware? Firmware 2.003.2 has been changed by Meizu (the first version had no tap up and down, later the same version had)?

Did you format your Meizu? If so in what format?

I'm one of the unlucky people who're having this problem.

I had it before with older firmware and I'm still having it with the latest 2003.2 firmware.

Before updating to the newest firmware, I formatted the Meizu twice, using the eight second RW button function. That should be good enough.

I checked to see what, if any, hidden system files there are on there, and the only one that's there is a 'Recycled' folder that's impossible to erase. Windows put it there, I believe.

I formatted the player again, and now, with nothing on it (and I really mean nothing at all) it doesn't update the music library when I turn it on. Maybe I should keep it that way.

Recycled can be deleted

The recycled folder can be removed and IMHO it should be removed.

It is put on your player by Windows to enable you to recycle your trash. You can remove it by opening a cmd box. Go to the Meizu drive and type in del /s RECYCLER.

I am no sure if this would solve your problem. It would give you at least some extra space

The updates are gone now.

I fiddled around with the Miniplayer a little more and found that the date was set to the year 2000. I don't know if that was the cause, but it might be.

After changing the date, the updates were still there on every restart, so I erased everything, yet again.

There were no updates then, with nothing on the player, until I made two small voice record files. It started to update again.

I then connected to my computer, threw away the voice record files, loaded a lot of new music and podcast files. After disconnecting, waiting for the update, shutting down and restarting, there was no restart. It was beautiful. For the first time in months.

Zaan, good report. Not that I see what causes the problem, but maybe if more people write down exactly what they did and what the results are, we will find out what causes this strange behavior. I hope it won't happen to me though

hi guys,

i have the US Dane Elec 4GB m6.

after upgrading the factory firmware to the meziu v2.003.2, i started getting the 'update music library' every time i disconnected it from my computer.

i spent some time with this and found a way to 'fix' it. (YMMV)

after i copy/modify files and place them on the m6, i turn off the archive bit (file attribute) for the files affected.

HINT: an easy way to unset the archive bit for all the files on your m6 is to do the following:
1. copy any single file to the root folder
2. select all the folders and that file
3. right-click, select properties
4. put a check in the archive box and then uncheck it
5. click ok, and 'apply changes to selected items, subfolders, and files'
6. delete the file you put in the root folder

the first time you disconnect after a change, the library will be updated (completely and still a slooowww process if you have lots of files).

but, from here on out (until you change something else), when you reconnect or charge or power on, the library update will only take a couple of seconds (searching for changes) if it occurs at all.

i hope that helps

I don't mind having a update on the music library on startup, maybe just checking for new changes/files will do.

But updating the entire media library does really get on the nerves sometimes.

My meizu m4 4gb sp player also says "update disk info" on startup after the player has been plugged in through the usb. I don´t really mind because it doesen´t increase the startup time too much. I had a problem at first when I noted this, and that was that the battery indicator showed that the battery was empty despite I had charged it resently. First I reseted and formated the player but that didn´t help. Then I tried changing the skin I was using and now the battery indicator works as it should. It still does the "update disk info" thing though.....

Hi Everyone!

I'd like to ask for your help about my SP M6, which has a special freezing problem:
Symptoms:
- When booting, and the "MINIplayer" appears in the begining it displays "Updating Disc Information..." (not Music Library!!!) and no more. Stucks at this moment and displays it till the battery lasts (long hours).
- the only way to switch it off is reseting (Enter button 10 secs)
- I can recharge the battery, even some computers recognise it (I hear the "double click noise"), but it doesn't appear anywhere in My Computer, etc., so I can't do with it anything.
- I bought it 2 months ago, haven't update anything on it, always disconnected it by "Safety Removal".
- the problem happend after I removed from the computer (safely), not when wanted to play something, and it didn't turn off.
- I haven't tried anything like format (On/Off + FF/Rew) or DFU or something which could possibly take it at the risk of losing datas, since I have plenty of photos and other datas which are unique and I don't have any other copy from them (I know, I was stupid) and I'm definately NOT willing to lose those datas.
- The Meizu guaranty service couldn't do anything with it, just offered a new one, but I NEED THOSE DATAS. That's more important, than the M6 itself.

If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it!
(Please offer solutions only which you're 100% sure in that doesn't involve data-lost!!!)

Thx so much for ideas...

Cheers, drezick

Try starting the player and when it gets to the updating message give the M button a 4-5 second long press followed by a couple of short presses. I have found that this will cancel the update and should then let you connect the player and retreive the data.

You could also try pressing the M+Power button while connecting the player to set to dfu mode without using the DFU tool then disconnect and try restarting the player.

I've come up with a couple alternate ways of setting the archive bit so that the "Update Music Library" doesn't always process all music files when dealing with connection to the USB cable. The time it takes to update the library is more of a big deal if you have lots of albums in individual folders on your player as I do which takes two minutes to fully process. I find this method much easier to deal with than the other button pressing methods. The original method detailed on page 1 of this thread as well as my methods have been tested on an M6 SL 8GB w/firmware 2004.3 and 2004.6.

Here is a way to fix all of the media files on your Meizu in one shot from the command line in any Windows OS so that the "Update Music Library" doesn't always process your files after only charging with the later firmwares. Note: Combined with the newer firmware versions your Meizu will still perform the "Update Music Library" process automatically if you were to copy or delete any music via the USB data sync process but at least it won't run everytime now for no reason especially after only charging.

Method A - Fixing all media files on the Meizu's flash drive:
* DO NOT COPY OR DELETE ANY FILES FROM YOUR MEIZU DURING THIS TASK.
Here is the step by step method to use (make sure to change to the appropriate drive letter to match your own Meizu) for step 3. You can also use the batch file version at the bottom of this post to do the same thing via Windows Explorer.

1. Turn On your Meizu and let it boot at least to the Meizu logo screen and then plug it in to the USB cable that is also attached to your computer.
2. In Windows click Start Menu | Run | cmd.exe (type that in and hit enter)
3. J:
4. attrib -R -S -H -A * /S /D
5. Wait for the prompt to return which means the attrib process completed.
6. Type exit.

Now we are going to test if this fixes the issue!

7. Keep the Meizu turned On but disconnect it from the computer/USB cable.
8. The "Update Music Library" message will display for a couple of seconds on the Meizu's screen but it won't actually go through any updating process as it would have previously without turing off the archive bit on the files (using the newer M6 firmwares)!
9. Now turn Off the Meizu.
10. Now connect it to the USB cable to start the charging process for a few seconds.
11. Now disconnect the USB cable and turn the Meizu On.
12. This time you should not get ANY "Update Music Library" message or update process as you would have previously without turing off the archive bit on the files (using the newer M6 firmwares)!

Method B - Fixing all media files on your computer's hard drive, that way you won't have to remember to do Method A after copying media to your Meizu:
Here is the step by step method to use (make sure to change to the appropriate drive letter and folder name to match your own computer) for steps 2. and 3. You can also use the batch file version at the bottom of this post to do the same thing via Windows Explorer.

1. In Windows click Start Menu | Run | cmd.exe (type that in and hit enter)
2. G:
3. cd\MP3
4. attrib -R -S -H -A * /S /D
5. Wait for the prompt to return which means the attrib process completed.
6. If you have your music collection spread over more than one hard drive repeat steps 1-5 again for that other location.
7. If you have any Videos or Recordings repeat steps 1-5 again for that location.
8. Type exit.
9. Now when you copy files to your Meizu you won't have the issue of having to remember to clear the archive bit from the Meizu's flash drive.

Note: The reason I added the -R -S -H switches is because I noticed that some files in my music collection had extraneous files set to read only or system (for instance any thumbs.db files) and I didn't want that to be set so we are sure to be clearing the archive bit this way by first setting all of your music files to not be read only, system or hidden. If only one of the files in my media collection had its' attrib bit set to read only then attempting to change the archive bit on that file wouldn't have worked.

For those that do not want to have to remember commands I have attached a clear.zip file which contains a file clear.bat (rename the "clear" part to whatever you want) inside which you would then copy to your Meizu's root folder (the main folder that comes just before MUSIC). You would then in Windows Explorer double-click on clear.bat from your Meizu's root folder which starts a process that sets the archive bit to off on all files on the Meizu. The window will close when it is done. When you do disconnect the USB cable the first time after copying clear.bat to the Meizu it will do an "Update Music Library" process because you DID copy a new file to the Meizu which forces the Update process to run. Any subsequent connections to the USB cable for charging or otherwise after this will be fixed and the "Update Music Library" process should not run unless you were to manipulate files on the Meizu flash drive. You can also copy clear.bat to your computer's main Music collection folder which when double-clicked from Windows Explorer would set the archive bit to off on all files in your Music collection just before copying anything new to the Meizu (this way you won't have to run the bat file from the Meizu). *After the first execution of clear.bat the clear.bat file itself will get its archive bit turned off for the future. The first time you run clear.bat it will take a while to complete since it has to go through all of your files, after that first time it will be quick.
