Risks updating the firmware?

I've had my Meizu M6 (SP) for over a month and I'm very pleased with it, it does everything I want and I've not had a single problem. I'm currently on firmware 2.003.2, that's the version provided by Dane-Elec that doesn't allow you to use the radio. I don't mind not having the radio that much because I have another portable radio.

I've heard of a lot of people having problems with upgrading the firmware, either failing and completely preventing it from working or having problems that weren't there before with the new firmware. So far I've avoided updating because of this, when the player works as well as it does and I can't see how it can be improved any more by a firmware update it seems pointless to take any risks. But it's in the back of my mind that I might be missing out on something by not having the latest firmware.

So I want to weigh up the advantages against the risks. Are the risks of updating the firmware blown out of proportion? What are the advantages to the latest firmware over the one I've got (apart from the radio)?

Hello,

The last firmware manages APE audio codec (lossless format), and improves WMA codec management.

Before upgrading (if you do so) be sure to make a backup of you Meizu, as the upgrade from your version implies a reformat of your player.

Firmware upgrade is not dangerous provided that you read carrefully the documentation that explain how to do it safely.

Thanks philopette. I'll wait to hear some more opinions, I don't use APE or WMA much so it doesn't look like I'm missing out.

if your firmware update happens to fail, you can use DFU tools to revive your m6.

Personally, I believe that whenever someone's player crash or does not work anymore after an update means that they are doing it wrong. Just read directions carefully. If you are using a SP player, then use the SP firmware. If a SL, then use the SL firmware.

Btw, the new firmware fixes the battery charging issue. Occasionally your player will not get fully charged, but the battery indicator will say so.

As Segafan is currently with 2.003.2 I don't think he is concerned.

I may be wrong, but I thought that this problem was not present before 2.004.x (at least was not present with 2.003.2), see Problem charging battery
