Even a bricked 1GB player would be too expensive, as you'd probably also brick the next few ones until you get it right ... :eek:
So what is really needed is a safe recovery procedure, or some research on the DFU part.
If it can recover M6 from flashing wrong firmware (e.g. TP on an SP model), it seems likely it could also recover from a bad rockbox boot loader - but noone has ever done this and there seems to be no definitive statement, so it remains risky.

IMHO, the existing firmware still isn't bad enough to take that risk
Of course, if someone came up with a safe and proven way to recover from a bad flash, or some datasheets, things might get rolling...
