Yeah but you forget that we are not working for Meizu. The fact that Meizu delays their much wanted product for market position has no particular value to us customers, it is in fact quite irritating.

This hype that is created is now starting to backfire on them. I may be wanting to have the M8, but I'm surely not liking Meizu as a company.
In fact, as soon as a better alternative comes up (trust me, 6 months is a long time in the digital world) i'll drop the M8 for it. Heck, i'm already surfing around for an alternative right now.

They shouldn't have fooled us Januari of last year creating the impression that the M8 would come out soon.

I dare to claim that noone needs one. Desperation and touch phones somehow do not connect in my mind.

I may be wrong, but I'm under the impression that January last year they did not say M8 would come out soon, but in Q4 2007 (that was last month). Now allegedly due to technical difficulties, it got delayed until Q1/Q2 2008, which is bad.. but doesn't that happen also with other companies? And would you prefer a buggy product?

Personally, I think Meizu is doing the right thing if they are really making sure it's perfect before release. As for the hype they created, I agree that it's an annoying strategy, but it was probably necessary, since M8 is a huge project for a relatively small company like them.

That's my point.. and that's why I don't understand the general feeling of drama regarding the delay of M8.

As a potential customer I think it will be a cool product, and I might buy one when it comes out... but I don't really care if it comes out now or only next summer.

eh, that's it... I am getting something else in the meantime the M8 shows up. I am not saying I am **** off but I am at least **** (please insert your favorite 4 letter words). But no harsh feelings, really. I can start searching for the "second best" phone. It's not going to be iPhone for sure - don't know what all these people see in it... It has to be either windows mobile (has tons of apps) or something hackable, running on Linux . (yeah, I know, I know, I am looking for a toy, not a phone, but what the heck... I am a guy and a geek)
The iphone is very hackable... There are tons and tons of apps for it and its so easy to do... And it has tv out , a nice bright screen , and a hudge community... The eyecandy is so neat...

Im getting VOIP working on my ipod touch so i can make phone calls

Ive already got a ps1 emulator + GBA emulator.. the GBA runs very very well , the ps1 emulator not so well... Its still in beta stages and later releases have hudge performance increases.. Currently most games run in the 10-15 fps range and only a few run at full speed (20-25fps)

Hehe, no actually it was supposed to some out in Q3 of 2007 (dude in CeBIT movie said it in March). After that it was "made accurate" to end Q3 / beginning Q4 when we were somewhere in the second quarter. When we were halfway through the third quarter it was made clear that the m8 had suddenly no clear releaseperiod, but that the units (plural) would be done before the 30th of december, which is the very end of Q4. Anyway, we were waiting now at the beginning of the new Q1 with the thumbs crossed at the CES for a possible release/prototype. Too bad they said that wouldn't happen, but it will be viewed at the CeBIT, end of Q1. I would like to add that products shown at places like CES and CeBIT aren't directly released after, often they're just prototypes / first batches. Add another few months for mass production / Quality Check and we will end up at May/June (end Q2). Please note this is without possible future delays, but I'll leave it at that.

I don't know if this happens at a regular basis at other companies; if that's true I would centainly feel sorry for them.

Oh, guess I was a bit misinformed then.. my bad
Didn't think they had already delayed the release date so much..

But anyway, I still maintain my relaxed "it's done when it's done" view about this. I don't really need a new phone right now. I guess I'm not so annoyed by this hype+delay thing because I only got to know Meizu last summer :P

LOL, the guys at CeBit also said that there would be one without a phone. Talk about misinformed.

I hate that Meizu making us wait but I rather wait a couple of months and have a really great phone then for them to come out with it now and start having problem within a couple of days.

Does anyone have pics of CES Meizu booth?

Whenever it gets released (even if it's no longer revolutionary by then), the MiniOne will be a huge step for Meizu as a company, getting into a new (and much wider) market. It's understandable that they are trying to create a product that is as perfect as possible, since it will be the flagship to carry their brand name in the years to come.
I'm sure that they know the risks involved with this delay, but it would be far worse to release a buggy product (even if on schedule) after all the hype created around it.

Right now it's really a matter of asking yourself how desperate you are for a touchscreen phone, and if you really need one right now. I for one am happy with my current relatively cheap phone, and will wait for M8 until it's available. It's done when it's done. :P
ha ha - yep you are right. For Meizu it will be a big step. And if you are an employee of Meizu I can understand your argumentation. But you should know the saying (it is also a song): 'The winner takes it all'.

No one - except applefanboys :D - are willing to pay money for old technique. If Meizu is not on sale in March with a perfect phone - it will be a desaster for them. for patience no one spend money for. Why should I wait until September, if three month later WM 7 is out? We are waiting since Q4 2007 - one year....

I think even you should get the point now. 3 months are long in the mobile phone market. If you want to spend money on old technique do so - most people will not.

well - if I got it correctly - Meizu is not at the CES but in a hotel (Hilton) close by (quite common btw.).

So it might be, that they will present their phone tomorrow or even later

according to Meizu CEO they won't present the M8 at CES, but at CeBIT in March.

And I agree with you in that it doesn't make much sense to spend much money on old technologies. That's why I only said that I might buy it (it will also depend on what the reviewers/first buyers say about it).

But I don't think that by Q1/Q2 2008 (or even Q3) the M8 concept will be "old". Right now there are just a few "similar" products in the market, and even those are far bellow in specs and cost much more. I imagine that in 3-6 months some products may outperform the M8, but they will still be too expensive in comparison.

Personally, I don't need a new phone right now, so I can wait to see what the M8 will be. And then, if I like it, I may decide to buy it. But this is just my opinion though.

I hope Meizu will make it as soon as they can, cause technics grows older and older the longer you wait!

So here seems to be the only photo of Meizu at CES...at least the one I have come across without actually searching

IMG_2690.JPG

Looks like a nice little display, but still sad to see the same 2 players we all know so well...and for so long Given the cost and likely low level of foot-traffic (at least in comparison to the main halls) you have to wonder why Meizu even bothered.

I knew it. iRiver has released a touchscreen phone with an iPhone'esque interface, based on Linux. And they do have a working prototype.

ooooh . It has Linux... Gimme! Gimme! :P The design is not so appealing, and it also doesn't sport this huuuge 720x480 display, but hey... Wondering about the price, though. Never though iRiver was a cheapo, but if they can squeeze the price below (or equal to) 500$, I might go for it.
