I personally think that's a stupid idea. The M6 is already a great music player, if you want a DAP that's the size of a phone, then go ahead.

It is said that at least in China market, there will be M8 models without phone. This model will keep all other functions and can be expanded to phone by add an accessory. Of course, this model will be cheaper than the phone model. Meizu do this does not because they like this idea, but because they are afraid they can not get the license of making and selling cellphone in China in time. The rumor spread that Meizu has already spend about thirty millions USD in this license. But so many quantification is required by this license, they do not want to take a risk by assume they can get it in time. So they adopt this design in the consider that if they really failed in get the license when m8 is already, then they can sell the DAP model first and user can update their m8 to phone by themselves when the license is ready.

I don't have that much music or videos. I do however like a big screen. The M6 is 2.4" I'd rather have the 3.32" with 4 to 8 GB's. Not only that, the keyboard on the the M8 is touchscreen. Yes the iPhone has a touchscreen keyboard, but that is way more sophisticated and has multi-touch (not saying it's good, just saying). I'd love it if Meizu would make one with an external keyboard.

There would only be 2 benefits if it didn't have a phone:
1) better battery life
2) possibly slimmer/lighter because less components are needed.
I would definitely prefer it with a phone because then I will only need to carry 1 device with me everywhere not 2!!

yeah defos! it's all about having one device! however I think battery life will be a a big issue for me. Most PDA phones with a 1500mah li-ion battery do not last that long (in DAP terms). Even big name cell phone manafacturers such as nokia and sony-ericsson and HTC rarely (if at all) manage more than 10 hours for audio. Also I think the M3 and M6 battery life is viewed rather more 'optimistically' by users particularly on this forum. In reality I think Meizu's battery life is decent but not outstanding. Put it this way my sony NW-HD5 has 40Hrs! and is replacable. Obviously it all depends what format your music is in, in reality when I play a mixture of mp3 between 192 and 320kpbs it is more around the 27-30hr mark. Personally I think companies should devote more resources to battery life as It is such an important issue. However If all goes to plan the m8 will release with a removable battery and spares will be sold speratly. Also I think battery life should be quoted as the time taken from the playback of more power consuming formats and bitrates eg 320kbps mp3, Ogg or flac as many buy Meizu products for the reason that they offer such higher quality formats that many other DAP manafacturers do not support.

I don't think that a M8 without phone would be worth it, unless it will be very cheap. The M6SE will be better as a media player I think.

I've had the NW-HD5 for a while and the battery life is nowhere near 40h. It's more like 25h, which is still great vor a HDD-based DAP.

Even sony advertises it with 30h for mp3 cbr128.
40h is meant to be for atrac3 cbr48...
...and who the hell would encode to cbr48 for a 20gb device?

I do email and texting on my phone, I don't know what Meizu M8 uses for it's touchscreen but i'm pretty sure it doesn't use multi-touch. How many people want an iPhone without the phone? Answer: Lots. This would be great for people who want that.

4GB 199 dollars

8 299 dollars
