Meizu arrives in France on March 31

Mar 07, 2014 - 2:06 AM - by chengdude

Meizu held a press event in Paris yesterday to announce their plans for their expansion into their newest market: France. A French language option was added to the Flyme 3.4.5 firmware released at the end of February, so no big surprise the move was coming. But for anyone expecting a simple tie-up with a local retailer, yesterday's presentation offered up some unexpected twists. The French tech press may not have been overly impressed, but it's another bold move from a company that used to prefer flying below the radar. A summary + links after the break...

Meizu et Boulanger...est-ce l'amour?

Mar 06, 2014 - 3:01 AM - by chengdude
In a few hours, Meizu will officially announce their plans for their newest market: France. phonandrioid.com managed to capture a listing (now deleted) from electronics retailer Boulanger that suggests they will be Meizu's exclusive outlet for the MX3 in France:

Yikes! 449 Euros for a 16GB MX3 ??!!? Predictably, comments on phonandroid were mostly of the "nice phone, but not worth it" variety, but...c'est la vie...such is life with import duties, VAT, dealer margins, et al.

Stay tuned for all the details coming soon.

Flyme insanity! MX3, MX2, MX firmwares released

Jan 24, 2014 - 12:57 PM - by chengdude

It's the countdown to Lunar New Year and Meizu is in a celebratory mood. As companies in China wind down operations in preparation for the long holiday, the mad scientists in the Flyme Labs have unleashed an unprecedented triple firmware release: Flyme 3.4.1 for the MX3 and MX2 and the real shocker...Flyme 2.5 for the MX. All three are domestic CN versions and are considered official, so you'll find them on Meizu's update page and likely going out OTA as we speak. We're just a week out from the New Year, so it's hard to say if Hong Kong editions will get the updates as well. Fingers crossed that Meizu clears the backlog before heading home for a well-deserved holiday.

Meizu CES wrap-up

Jan 12, 2014 - 6:57 AM - by chengdude

CES. It’s over. Did Meizu steal the show? Crash the party? Obviously not, but with the buzz dying away and memories of almost everything on display in Las Vegas fading, it’s time to filter out all the noise and review Meizu’s debut on “the global stage for innovation”. All the details after the break...

More MX3 Ubuntu photos ...and it's not a leak

Jan 10, 2014 - 10:41 AM - by chengdude

It's clear now Meizu wants you to know that Ubuntu is coming to the MX3. A set of five photos has been released on the Meizu China forums as well as on Meizu's Flyme Weibo account and, really, there's no mistaking these shots for any sort of "Mr. Blurrycam"-type leak. See the rest after the break...

Meizu app store hits 600 million downloads

Jan 09, 2014 - 6:16 AM - by chengdude

Sometime between the evening of January 8 and the morning of January 9, the Flyme store crested 600 million cumulative downloads. Meizu's thriving app store generally gets lost in the greater discussion of Meizu's accomplishments since paid apps and themes are still restricted by the company's reliance on China-only payment processors. Unfortunately, none of the hype being generated this week from CES has included the Flyme ecosystem, so Meizu fans outside China will need to cross their fingers that with all the talk of going global in 2014, the app store somehow hitches a ride. Until then, there's still a decent selection of freebies, so if you haven't already, drop in and take a look around: M Store

Meizu at CES 2014

Jan 06, 2014 - 6:34 AM - by chengdude

It's almost CES time, and China tech portal ZOL.com has already posted a few shots from the Meizu stand. Note that "Future Technology Enterprise Limited" is Meizu's DBA in Hong Kong. A couple more pics after the break...and no doubt plenty more updates to come over the next few days.

Is this Meizu MX3 running Ubuntu?

Jan 05, 2014 - 9:36 AM - by chengdude

It sure looks like it.

Is this the CES 2014 trick up Meizu's sleeve? Could be...just a couple of days and we'll know for sure.

One more photo after the break.
